The Philippines has grown into one of the most vibrant economies in Asia over the past decade or so and one of the sectors that have contributed heavily to the recent growth in the country’s economy is online gaming. Now, the country is trying to cash in on the huge popularity of gaming by setting up online casinos in different parts of the capital city of Manila, according to the gaming regulatory authority, Andrea Domingo. At the end of the day, an industry that can bring in huge revenues by way of taxes and generate employment is almost always going to be backed by any sane government.
Hence, It is not a surprise that the authorities in the Philippines are now trying to set up online casino hubs and it is particularly important since POGO is already legal in the country. POGO refers to the overseas gaming operators who operate from out of the country and over the years, this has proven to be a great source of revenues for its coffers. However, it is also important to note that the majority of the workers in the industry are Chinese and not local ones. At this point of time, the gaming industry employs as many as 138,000 people. However, there are other ways in which it has benefitted the Philippines. For instance, the gaming industry is currently the biggest user of office space in the capital city of Manila and it is only going to go up in the years to come.
However, the establishment of the online casinos is going to take employment to a whole new level altogether. It has been reported that one of the major companies named Oriental is building a 20-hectare facility and it is going to employs as many as 20,000 workers. On the other hand, online casinos will also prove to be highly advantageous for the operators as well. The regulatory authorities in the Philippines are going to give these operators a license to operate for 5 years instead of the 3 years operating license that is awarded to other operators.
